WOODS FOR

FLOORING

Real timber floors have always been a quality option but now they are increasingly being seen as a healthy substitute for close carpeting. Close carpeting is sometimes perceived as emitting toxic fumes and as constituting a health risk for asthma sufferers. New timber floors can be laid over existing concrete floors. Specially selected timber can be purchased in tongued and grooved boards ready to fit.

We sell hardwearing OAK flooring 19mm thick selected from character oak. Character oak has the added interest of occasional small knots and wavy figure which add variety of colour and liveliness to a floor. Oak floors if waxed will mellow to a rich golden brown.

A paler, blond colour, floor can be achieved using our ASH flooring, which, like the oak flooring, is solid timber and hardwearing.

We can recommend installers for these floors.

For a cost effective floor of solid wood ALDER can be used as can been seen in the Greenhouse, Centre for Sustainable Development, in Norwich. Here it is laid in narrow boards butted together. Alder is soft but tough although it is susceptible to beetle. It grows quickly on land which is too damp for agriculture.
